Intraaortic Balloon Counterpulsation and Other Circulatory Assist Devices

چکیده
conditions, the availability of effective devices for circulatory support has assumed increasing importance. The first such device was the (IABP), which improved the myocardial oxygen supply/demand ratio and provided limited circulatory support. It remains the most widely used and practical system today, although more complicated devices, such as the left ventricular support device (LVAD) and the cardiopulmonary support (CPS) system, have been introduced to provide more circulatory support in special circumstances. This chapter reviews the design, function, indications, and technique for use of these important adjunctive devices for circulatory support in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. 21

Prophylactic intraaortic balloon counterpulsation in high-risk cardiac surgery: a survey of opinion and current practice
INTRODUCTION Patients undergoing cardiac surgery increasingly have greater comorbidities and subsequently are at higher risk of adverse postoperative outcomes. Despite some evidence suggests that prophylactic intraaortic balloon counterpulsation reduces mortality in selected high-risk patients, its use remains low. The aim of this study was to investigate reported management strategies of high-...
متن کاملEnd Stage Heart Failure – Transplantation or Lvad?
Heart failure is a complex clinical syndrome that can result from any structural or functional cardiac disorder that impairs the ability of the ventricle to fill or eject blood. According to the data from the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation registry, the half-life of patient survival after heart transplantation has progressively improved from 8.9 years in 1982 to a proj...

After his first acute myocardial infarction, a 69-year-old male suffered the usually lethal complication of ventricular free-wall rupture. Early suspicion of possible rupture and immediate percutaneous insertion of an intraaortic balloon pump assist device afforded sufficient hemodynamic stability to proceed with cardiac catheterization. The diagnosis of ventricular free-wall rupture was confir...

متن کاملComparison of effects of extra-thoracic paraaortic counterpulsation to intraaortic balloon pump on circulatory support in acute heart failure
BACKGROUND Previously designed intra-thoracic paraaortic counterpulsation device has limited stroke volume and may depress the lung to cause complications. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the hemodynamic effects of an extra-thoracic paraaortic counterpulsation device (ETPACD) in comparison to intraaortic balloon pump (IABP) in an animal model with acute heart failure. METHODS The ac...
